Cape Verde...Free!

It's late notice, yes. But it's worth it. Maria de Barros is performing tonight at Town Hall Seattle, and I just found out that a Cape Verde cultural organization is giving away 130 free tickets for youth age 18 and under. You can find the details about the show and the giveaway here (click "events"), along with some Cape Verdean music samples from Cesaria Evora, Maria de Barros, Lura, Maria Alice, Suzanna Lubranno, Tito Paris, and Mindel Band.

More details on this and other upcoming world music performances in the Northwest at the SoundRoots Calendar.

I just knew the musical picture what I had from the world music market.

But when I was there, I noticed the kapverdian people listen to other music then I thought (most of the people are very young). Cabolove and kizomba and ferro gaita was dominating the radio programm, what out each house and car and bar was sounding. After a little time I loved this stuff so much.

Also they like Kuduru (original from Angola). Hard monotone new music with a special dance. Very difficult to understand for us.

Also in Angola the play a lot of kapverdian kizomba! In Paris, french Antilles it has his part, also in Congo the play that for an example. Very popular african music.
