Many meetings today and outta town tomorrow. Between, few moments for music today. So I literally
closed my eyes, stuck out a finger, and advanced on my wall of CDs. You might question the result of this seemlingly random selection process, but this is just what I needed to hear. The track is a fiery Afrobeat piece from one of America's lesser-known followers of Fela Kuti's footsteps, the Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble. Boasting a core group of 13 members, often joined by many more, they've got a big sound that one reviewer aptly describes as "Felariffic!"
Their gig schedule doesn't show them performing much this year; hopefully that's because they're in the studio recording a follow-up to their short but powerful 2004 debut.

Thanks for your visit, Sarita. I don't need to buy a Buddha at present (which doesn't mean my home is Buddha-free, mind you!), but if I ever do, now I know where to go.
