Jewish Music Old & New

Jewish Music Old & New
Spin The Globe playlist for 7 December 2007

This week's show romped through the Jewish world in the first hour, from traditional klezmer tunes to the constructed hip hop beats of Socalled, and much in between. Got a call from Elizabeth Schwartz during the show, and she's right: there were too few women musicians represented. Sorry about that, and I pledge to do better. But what's done is done, and what was done was this:Tumwater Falls flood - Deschutes River (C)Scott Allan Stevens, www.earball.net

One track I intended to play but didn't get around to is one by spoken word artist Vanessa Hidary. It's a nice (female!) complement to the singer speaking about Jewish music in "Rock the) Belz." And a little edgier.

Thanks, by the way, to everyone who emailed or called to check on me after the storm...except for a little water in the basement, no harm done. Not like the people (and freeway) under many feet of water to the south and west of Olympia. And not like the Deschutes River!
