Had this month's chart done some days ago, and just realized that I was running out of time in the month to post it. So just in the nick of time, here's what's new in global music for September. New on the charts are the latest offering by neo-forro masters Forro in the Dark, Indian-fusion singer Kailash Kher, instrumental maestros Les Triaboliques, and the village artists behind the wonderful audio-video Laya Project. More reviews coming, but in the meantime check out these albums for some wonderful, diverse sounds.
SoundRoots provides information about and commentary on ethnic arts and world cultures, particularly what's known around here as "world music." Frequent mp3 postings too, so you can listen while you read. Live Locally, Groove Globally!
The SoundRoots / Spin The Globe events calendar lists dance and world music performances, workshops, and festivals, along with other relevent happenings. Provided in conjunction with the world music radio showSpin the Globe on KAOS-fm.
Audio files are posted for promotional purposes only, and files will vanish after a brief stay. CD reviews and mp3 postings are intented particularly to highlight under-appreciated, obscure, or out-of-print "world music." If you like the music, buy the CD, get full-quality sound & album art, and support the artist! Any mp3 will be promptly removed at the request of the artist/label.
SoundRoots encourages you to not just attend global culture events, but to hold and create your own.
