Aurelio Martinez's fantastic Afro-Latin album climbs to the top our first chart of 2011. It's one of the holdovers from the November chart, along with five others. The new albums making up the rest of the chart include the quietly delicious kora-cello CD Chamber Music, new joiking from Wimme, a compilation of Saharan guitars, and the first new-material Kodo taiko album in six years. Follow the album links to find out more.

Aurelio is currently on tour, playing Los Angeles Jan. 15 & 16, Seattle Jan. 17, and San Francisco Jan. 18 (details). A look at a past Aurelio performance in warmer times:

AfroCubism is particularly great because of the kora player, Toumani Diabate. The rest of the players are great, but it could just be Toumani and it would be worth listening to.
